So it’s the first day of Spring, finally! And we’re currently huddled up inside while it snows outside. Snow? What? Yep, you read that right. So weird, Pennsylvania. So weird.
Regardless though, it’s been a great week! Here are some highlights!
Pioneer Woman Banana Bread!
I love banana bread. It’s one of my snacky-desserty foods. I found this great recipe from the Pioneer Woman (my favorite cooking show ever!) and decided that I had to make it immediately. Unfortunately I didn’t have the necessary sour cream that her recipe requires … but I DID have some Wegman’s Vanilla Yogurt. I swapped out the 1-1/2 cups sour cream for 1 cup of vanilla yogurt & added 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and BAM! It was the best banana bread I’ve had yet. Super moist and just a hint of vanilla!
Do you guys have an “Ollie’s Bargain Outlet” near you? If so, you should definitely check out their cookbook selection. I ran up there with my momma the other night and we ended up each leaving with our arms full. Cookbooks for comfort food, jams, chutneys, cured meats, cheeses, everything! I even grabbed one for the hubby from one of his favorite shows, because you definitely need some “man food” once in a while! 😉
Antiquing and Thrift Shopping
One of our favorite things to do on days that we are home together is to hit up the local thrift & antique shops. Even if we don’t end up buying anything, it’s just fun to get out and explore together. Our latest adventure was fun though & we ended up with a few great finds! For $2 & $6 respectively, we found a book on re-finishing “shabby chic” furniture and one on different styles of “country” decorating – from English Country, to French Garden, to Colonial. I don’t know about you, but for me … that’s some good stuff!
We also snagged a nice, big jar full of laundry butter. I’ve been wanting to make my own for a while, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. While we were out, we found these jars at a stand for a local business. They had essential oils, salves, creams, and just about anything you can think of. I’m planning on using the laundry butter for the first time with our next load – apparently all you need is one tablespoon per load, and it’s chock full of natural ingredients and oils. I’ll have to let you guys know how it works once I use it! And if it goes well … then maybe I’ll finally get around to trying to make some myself! 🙂
I obviously spend a ton of time in front of screens – working on my laptop, reading on my kindle, scrolling through my phone, etc. I’ve never needed glasses or contacts before … and I still don’t … BUT I started thinking about how bad the glare is off of these screens for your eyes. I’ve had a few friends try out computer glasses that they bought on Amazon & have said what a difference it makes. I wasn’t really sure what it would do, but I decided to give it a shot … start preserving my eyesight while it’s still good, right? Well, it was an excellent decision. Kid you not, within one day of using these glasses (which have a funky yellow tint to them, to block out nasty UV rays and such) I noticed a difference. My eyes didn’t feel so tired, and I actually didn’t feel as tired by the end of the day either. Weird purchase, great decision.
